Fore the Ladies Finds: October Edition

fore the ladies finds

volume 1, issue 4

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.” -Ruth Bader Ginsburg

I miss summer already. There, I said it. While I adore my new golf fashion options - sweaters, joggers and jackets - I miss having longer evenings and sunscreen.

However, there’s plenty to love about fall and I’m not above a PSL, pumpkin beer and apple cider donuts on the golf course. Come to think of it, I would love a halfway house that had all of those things …

In the world of Fore the Ladies, we held our first virtual clinic ever with Five Iron Golf last week and it was stellar. Our participants were incredibly engaging with great questions and I have a feeling we’ll host another one this winter - so keep an eye out! In the meantime, we hope you’re enjoying the Fore the Ladies podcast. It’s been really fun meeting women who love the sport and work in golf. If you’ve enjoyed the podcast, please give us a rating and review for feedback!

As always, I hope you check out this month’s finds from me, Brooke and Sara. We’ve had a blast putting together the newsletter over the last few months. Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom and add the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (the next major in women’s golf) coverage times to your calendar!

reading

I'm a sucker for books being turned into movies or TV series. One of my favorite novels this year was Daisy Jones & The Six, a fictional tale about a rock 'n' roll band in the seventies. It's written as an oral history with twists and awesome songs that I can’t wait to hear (and the fashion, my gosh it's going to be amazing). Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine are turning it into a series for Amazon, hopefully for 2021. May I suggest purchasing from Bookshop, which is an online bookstore with a mission to financially support local, independent bookstores? - Abby

watching

This is an amazing short video of Chris Harris, who built and runs a FREE pitch and putt for kids (and adults) in the Ivanhoe neighborhood of Kansas City, MO. Harris saw a dire need for green space and youth engagement in his neighborhood, and has worked for over 20 years focusing its revitalization. It's truly inspiring to see Harris' dedication to this project. Also, have you ever seen a video on YouTube with a more positive and uplifting comment section? - Sara

supporting

Whether it’s heart-warming or puts our jaws on the floor, we just love a good story. In a world of tik tok dances and hot takes on Twitter, sometimes we need to sit down with an in-depth tale, and The Golfer’s Journal gives us just that. The publication is mailed to subscribers on a quarterly basis, while their podcasts, events and newsletter keep us entertained in between.

We’re stoked to partner with TGJ beginning this month! For every new subscription purchased through Fore the Ladies, a portion of the sale will be donated back to LPGA*USGA Girls Golf if you use our link. Hit the link below to learn more and become a subscriber!

Ladies of Golf: Beth Ann Nichols

This week’s Fore the Ladies podcast is with Beth Ann Nichols, who has covered golf at all levels of the game for Golfweek since 2002. Beth Ann’s wealth of knowledge flows during this conversation and was incredibly enlightening for me; it reminded me of the potential for the sport and women’s golf. - Abby

connecting

Dropping a note in the mail to a friend or family member has always been something I've loved to do, but as life has become busier it's become less frequent. These days I feel like I have a constant Zoom hangover and I'm missing IRL interactions. I've found myself turning to pen and paper to get offline, but stay connected with friends. If you're in the market for some new stationary I did a roundup of a few golf themed options ranging from clean and classic to fun and funky. - Brooke

listening

I already have an obsession with The Office - and now Pam and Angela's (ok, Jenna Fisher and Angela Kinsey) The Office Ladies podcast brings me so much joy when it comes out each week. They re-watch episodes and interview cast members, writers, producers, even the editor of the show for a fascinating look behinds the scenes. Most of all, these two women have such a wonderful and true friendship that is a delight to eavesdrop on. - Sara

wearing

My wonderful friend Emily Farrell launched her golf apparel brand, Abendroth Golf, in 2019 after years of working in the industry and an inability to find the perfect bottoms for work, golf and leisure. Her flagship product, the Peggy Pant, sold out within weeks of the first launch and are back with new colors: black and olive green! The pants are high-waisted with a tapered leg and zip at the ankle for a jogger-like style that’s perfect for every fall golf round. - Abby

We love Brooke’s cocktail of the month, an Apple Cider Sangria, because it tastes, looks and smells like fall.
