Cabot Cape Breton Golf Trip: Our Tips and Tricks to a Fun Trip!

Fore the Ladies at Sand Valley Golf Resort

Cabot Cape Breton completely surpassed our expectations for a Fore the Ladies Golf Getaway. Between the gorgeous Cape Breton views to the staff hospitality and 19th holes, this is a destination to add to your bucket list. There are two 18-hole courses and one short course on this property, allowing for plenty of golf and a variety of itinerary options. Our group enjoyed the warm and sunny August weather, which you could find us starting the day in all of our layers and shedding them throughout the day.

Our Tips and Tricks

Travel: Make sure your passport is up to date because this Is an international trip to Canada! The flight is just over one hour from Laguardia but you can fly in from multiple U.S. cities to Halifax Stanfield International Airport. From the airport, it's still a two and a half to three hour drive to Cabot Cape Breton, so we recommend carpooling with a friend or booking a shuttle service. Having to do that drive back to the airport after a busy weekend isn't very fun, so we definitely recommend going the shuttle route if you can!

Caddies: The caddies at Cabot Cape Breton are fantastic and most have been working at the resort for multiple seasons. We would recommend a caddie on both the Links and Cliffs courses. Once you've played the course a few times, you probably can get away with just using a push cart.

"Ask the caddies any questions you have about Inverness/Cape Breton. Many of them grew up locally or have been at Cabot for multiple seasons, so they know the area well. We got some great history lessons and recommendations from them!" - Isabelle

Accommodations: There are multiple accommodations options for a stay at Cabot Cape Breton. Our group stayed in the Lodge at Cabot Links which ended up being a great location for our group. Each room was situated alongside the Links course, which had sweeping views of the course and water greeting us each morning. Staying in these rooms made it an easy walk to the Links course, Whit's Pub, Cabot Bar and Panorama restaurant.

Here are additional tips and tricks from our 2024 FTL Golf Getaway participants:

  • "If it's a sunny morning and zero percent of rain in the forecast, still bring your rain gear!" - Autumn

    • Note: With the course being on the ocean, the weather can change in an instant as well as the marine layer

  • "Take a bike ride along the Mini Cabot Trail." - Lauren

  • "Allow for lots of time at the driving range; the Trackman setup is awesome and an experience in itself." - Lauren

  • "When you finish your round on at The Cliffs, allow for at least another hour or two to recover on the couches just off 18 green with a lobster roll and Cabot ale." - Kelly

  • "Enjoy the cookies at the first tee. They are made by a local bakery that employs individuals with special needs." - Isabelle
